Established in 1787, was previously called Chinn’s Crossroads but was renamed because of its location midway between Alexandria and Winchester. Middleburg was more or less a staging point for those making the journey for east to west. The Civil the Colonial spirit lives on at the little inns, shops and restaurants in the historic downtown area. Middleburg was an important Civil War site as well; it was used by Confederate Colonel John S. Mosby as a base camp from which to raid nearby Union outposts.
Middleburg is horse country. It’s the kind of place where one can escape the reigns of the urban grind and blend into a calmer, more idyllic scene. It is a stylish community that boasts historic architecture and tree-lined streets adorned with charming shops and restaurants. There are a variety of activities to participate in and observe, from the Hunt County Stable Tour to the annual Christmas Day Parade.
Middleburg is about one hour’s drive from downtown Washington, D.C. on Route 50.
