Description

Rich in historical detail this is one of the most inviting properties on coveted Wolfe Street. This plaqued home, one of only 200 structures remaining that were built before 1820, is located in the heart of Historic Old Town. The property marries both the rich history and preservation of Alexandria with thoughtful modern finishes and architecturally sound renovations. The home was featured on the 2018 Vernacular Architecture Forum~s tour of Historic Homes in Old Town.Only three blocks to King Street, the center of Old Town, this home is just minutes from the King Street Metro as well as the newly developed Potomac River Waterfront Park. From the front door it's just a short stroll to over 200 boutiques and specialty shops as well as dozens of renowned restaurants and specialty eateries. The location provides for a pedestrian lifestyle that offers convenient access to all public transportation and commuter routes. The home is also within the sought after Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy school district. Exquisite curb appeal with desirable ~3 Window Frontage~ and corner lot allows the sunlight to pour through windows on three sides. One of the widest of Old Town~s row homes, the property features larger than average room sizes and taller ceilings which contribute to a sense of spaciousness unique for row homes. The double corner lot, hand surveyed by George Washington, features an exceptionally deep garden with extensive landscaping including three custom tiered brick patios surrounded by an ivy covered privacy fence, azaleas, holly, spring flowers and a working fountain. The fully fenced garden is pet friendly, private and serene. The lot is nearly twice the size of the average lot in Old Town which offers the potential of expansion or a possible carriage house/garage for off-street parking. The home also offers the perfect balance of modern conveniences and historic character. Some of the more notable historic features include wavy glass windows, original broad plank wood floors, hand-hewn beams, crown moldings, multiple built-in floor to ceiling bookcases and oil cloth floor cover and French Doors to patio off the dining room. Four elegant vintage hand-carved mantels and four fireplaces - two with vintage firebacks are in the main living spaces of the home. Important renovations on the property include a fully updated kitchen with custom cabinetry, Botticino honed marble countertops, porcelain farmhouse sink and white subway tile backsplash. The spacious and delightful master suite has large en suite luxury bath (Thermostatic shower valve and Geneva lever handle trim by Grohe/Axor Montreux hand shower by Hans Grohe w/ 36~ adjustable wall bar in Polished Chrome) a walk in closet plus two additional closets. All exterior siding and shutters have been painted and the standing seam metal roof recently sealed. New HVAC with 10-year transferable warranty and new LG front loading washer and dryer convey with the property. The lower level of the property has wonderful potential for finishing~the beautiful stonework and brick detailing will take you back in time. Unexpectedly spacious, the basement offers plenty of room for storage, wine cellar or a fully finished space. The current owners of the property have lovingly and impeccably maintained the home inside and out over the years with integrity. This historic home remembers the past but also nods to the future. The property awaits the next owner who will value and appreciate the finer points of this prominent home in the heart of Historic Old Town.

King Street Metro

The King Street Metro community is located at the bottom of Shooter’s Hill, between the Braddock Road Metro station and the Eisenhower Avenue Station. Until 1991, when the Blue Line was expanded to Van Dorn Street, only the Yellow Line served the community. Today, the King Street Metro community is accessible on both the Blue and Yellow Lines.

Quality of Life:

The King Street Metro community is predominantly composed of commercial office buildings and several mid to high-rise apartment complexes. There are older townhouses along Harvard and Peyton Streets, and a mix of old and new townhouses on West and Prince Streets.

King Street Metro means convenience. Without saying too much, residents in the King Street Metro community have unprecedented access to metro rail. King Street is seconds away, as well as its numerous restaurants. Take a walk down towards the heart of Old Town for a visit to The Old Town Theatre or The Lyceum. Stop by the Butcher’s Block for fresh meats and The Fromagerie for cheese. Whole Foods is right around the corner.

Getting Around:

Forgive us for repeating ourselves. From the King Street Metro community one can easily find their way to the King Street Metro station. The streets of Old Town are easily navigable by car. I-495 is less than five minutes away. Head north on the G.W. Parkway for a ten-minute drive to D.C. Two Metro stops to Reagan National Airport.

Airports:

Ronald Reagan National Airport:  < 6 miles.
Washington-Dulles International Airport:  < 30 miles.
Baltimore-Washington International Airport:  < 45 miles.
